OUR MISSION

The Sanitation Foundation is the official nonprofit partner of the NYC Department of Sanitation, mobilizing New Yorkers to help build a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable city.

Through education, advocacy, community engagement, and hands-on programs, we support DSNY’s workforce to keep New York City clean, reduce waste sent to landfills, and foster a culture of shared responsibility across all five boroughs.

Our vision is a New York City where every resident recognizes their role in keeping our neighborhoods clean and is empowered to take meaningful action to reduce waste. Through education, community engagement, and hands-on experiences, we are building a Clean City Culture rooted in the belief that sustainability and cleanliness are shared responsibilities.
