Explore DSNY’s Past on Urban Archive

July 1 2020 | Maggie Lee

Check out my recent interview with Urban Archive.

Recently, we launched a collection of digital photographs in partnership with Urban Archive, a platform that uses mapping technology to share the archival collections of cultural institutions across New York City. (They are also the winner of the 2020 Webby Award for Best Arts & Culture app!)

Using the Urban Archive platform, history buffs can see what NYC looked like in the past while they are out and about by searching for images of nearby locations and landmarks. Or they can explore different neighborhoods or curated stories from the comfort of their own homes.

Here are a couple of my favorites from the DSNY archives:

Through this partnership, we hope to make our collections more accessible to the public, and to increase awareness of DSNY’s vital work to keep New York City healthy, safe, and clean-- in the past, present, and into the future.
